Sanctuary Mimo

Located in Miami’s MIMO District, Sanctuary Mimo entails the adaptive reuse of the historical Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, (a former church and school), to serve as office and event space for locally-grown hospitality supplier, Front of the House, known as FOH.

BBA’s design honors the historical buildings, while also making it functional and contemporary to better suit the company’s vision and needs.

Built in the 1950’s, the abandoned church was located at 7610 Biscayne Blvd and includes more than 14,000 square feet. The Crab Orchard Stone on the tower and façade will be preserved as a tribute to the church’s Sub-Tropical modernism architectural style. To modernize it, BBA’s design calls for updated lighting and landscaping that will create a lush, lounge-style outdoor space. The SW courtyard features a wooden fence with a large sliding gate which will allow for access during specific events. This courtyard contains different types of plants and trees as well as canvas shade sails attached to the new palm trees.

Indoors, the large assembly space previously used for the congregation has been transformed into an all-white event and video mapping space. BBA’s design highlights the church’s original architecture by blending the old with the new. The high ceilings create a space that’s clean, pure and neutral with indirect lighting, providing the ideal environment for any type of event design.

Located north of the church, FOH’s second-floor office will be connected to the church. Lush landscaping will be added to create an inviting environment for people to experience as they make their way between the two buildings. The project is under construction and targeted for completion in late 2022
